Senior Phase (S4–S6)
As learners move into the Senior Phase, they begin to personalise their curriculum:
S4: Young people choose up to seven subjects, including options carried forward from S3 and new subjects introduced in S4. They also continue with core Physical Education (PE), Personal and Social Education (PSE), and Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS).
S5–S6: The number of subjects varies based on level—up to seven courses at Levels 4/5, or up to five courses at Levels 6/7.
Senior Assessment Calendar: At Liberton, all young people studying National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher English and/or Maths will complete their prelims under full SQA exam conditions. You will notice that these prelims are highlighted across all columns of the calendar, as young people will be out of their usual classes to complete them.
To make the most of learning and teaching time, and to ensure regular contact with subject teachers, all other assessments will take place in class time (although possibly in a different venue). This means that young people can continue with their learning while still being assessed in a supportive environment.
The calendar allows your child to see when each subject assessment is scheduled throughout the year, helping them to plan their revision in good time. Please also note that anything marked in green is an SQA component. Work completed for these assessments will directly contribute to your child’s final grade in August.
Please note that dates are correct at time of publishing. There may be occasions when class teachers do not feel young people are ready for the assessment and they will postpone it. In these instances the class teacher will inform home via an email.
We hope the calendar is helpful in supporting your child’s planning and preparation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
